Valparaiso University has a standing tradition of honoring military veterans the week before Veteran’s Day each year. This year’s program started with a chamber concert band performance of patriotic songs conducted by Professor Doebler.
Then the colors were presented by the Valparaiso University ROTC color guard. Pastor Jim Wetzstein gave an invocation, and cadets Connor Carmichael and Michelle Ford welcomed everyone. Professor Adam Stepanek gave his gratitude to those who helped to put on the program and introduced the event’s speaker, Dan Pelzel.
Dan Pelzel is a combat deployed veteran and current graduate student here at Valparaiso University. Pelzel talked about his role in the University’s ROTC and how Valpo made him feel welcome. He also talked about how your comrades are your family and how family sticks together, even after they have been separated and gone home.
There was a solemn reminder during the event that Veteran’s Day is a day to remember those who served, those who are serving, and those who will serve in the future. It is a day to remember the freedom that they fought to give us.
From all of us here at VUTV, thank you veterans for your service.
