Meet Our Team
Executive Director – Daniel Murphy
Daniel Murphy is a sophomore meteorology major from Livonia, Michigan. He joined VUTV his freshman year to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of news productions and has loved every minute of it. VUTV is very important to him and he looks forward to doing more with the organization.
News Director – Natalie Vernon
Natalie Vernon is a senior Meteorology major and mathematics minor from LaCrosse, Indiana. Growing up, Natalie loved watching the weather and listening to the news. Freshman year, she joined VUTV and can still be found there helping everyone and organizing the news broadcasts. Natalie can also be found helping the university police department forecast the weather for campus events. She also is involved in VEMO (Valpo Emergency Management Organization), VUSIT (Valparaiso University Storm Intercept Team), and the Valparaiso University branch of AMS (American Meteorology Society).
Assistant News Director – Tabitha Bartoe
Tabitha Bartoe is a Junior from Plain City, OH majoring in Communications with a double minor in Meteorology and Mathematics. Besides being the Assistant News Director for VUTV, Tabitha has a meteorology internship with Middle Tennessee Source, involved in VUSIT, AMS, President for College Mentors for Kids, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Phi Omega, VP of Outreach for Women in STEM, Student Director of VU Pep Band, and PR Chair of Valparaiso University Research Society.
Weather Director – Alexa Minton
Alexa Minton is a Junior Meteorology Major with a Minor in Mathematics and a Minor in Digital Media. This is her second year as a Weather Director for VUTV’s staff, and continues to produce all weather media broadcasted from the channel. She has had the opportunity to work with WHIZ-NBC4 in Zanesville, OH as their meteorologist intern, and is excited to continue her Broadcast meteorologist career in the years to come.
Assistant Weather Director – Kolton Woods
Kolton Woods is a sophomore meteorology major from Muskegon, Michigan. Kolton joined VUTV in hopes of gaining more knowledge and background on the behind the scenes of running a TV organization. Kolton is the Assistant Weather Director, so he is very passionate about helping members gain insight on how to use the green screen and to create weather forecasts.
Sports Director – Emmett Twomey
Emmett Twomey is a Junior Meteorology Major and History Minor from Orland Park, Illinois! When not helping with sports at VUTV, you can find him as a Resident Assistant in Lankenau Hall, an Ambassador in Admissions for Valpo, or with the Valparaiso University Storm Intercept Team (VUSIT), the American Meteorological Society (AMS/NWA), VUDU Comedy, Phi Delta Theta, or cheering on Valpo Athletics.
Productions Director – Demetrous Nobles
Demetrous Nobles is a senior Communications Major from Elgin, IL. Aside from being involved in VUTV he is also an active participant in clubs such as SALT, VU Haunt, Boxing Club, and the Torch. The reason he joined VUTV is because he grew up loving films and TV shows and VUTV offered an environment for him to do what he truly loves and hopes to do as a career.
Programming Director – Elliott Budd
Elliott Budd is a senior geography major from Kokomo, IN. Elliott joined VUTV because it sounded fun and would give him beneficial skills in meteorology and the broadcast industry. He is currently the Programming Director for VUTV and enjoys programming channel 15 with lots of fun content. He is also highly involved in Valpo Robotics, ESPN, and in the meteorology department.
Video Editing Director – Bella Pittman
Bella Pittman is a junior from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, with a major in meteorology. As President of the sorority Kappa Delta and Haunt, Bella is often seen rushing from meeting to meeting around campus. VUTV appealed to Bella first as experience for her future career in Broadcast Meteorology and then as a way to learn about the behind the scenes aspect of production. Adobe premier has become a breeze for this director of editing, and she is eager to learn more that will apply to her future career.
Business and Advertising Director – Thomas Palmer
Tommy Palmer is a sophomore finance major. He is a member of the Valpo Track team and is a member of Pike.
Digital Director – Allen Marvel
Allen Marvel is a Junior Meteorology Major with a Minor in Mathematics and a Minor in Digital Media. Allen is also involved as the Treasurer of VUSIT, a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), the Director of Logistics for Dance Marathon, New Member Educator for SigEp, Vice President of Public Relations for IFC, AIA and Social Media Team for the Admissions Office, and an Intramural Coordinator for Rec Sports. As Digital Director, Allen is in charge of updating the website and running VUTV’s social media. Allen got involved with VUTV to become prepared for working in the field as a broadcast meteorologist and he can’t wait to use his skills that he has learned from VUTV in the future.
Faculty Adviser – Ron Blatz
Ron Blatz joined Valparaiso University in the fall of 2014 as the Temporary VUTV Advisor and Studio Manager. Ron became the Permanent Faculty Advisor for VUTV and Studio Manager in 2015 on a part time basis. In October 2016, Ron was promoted to Faculty Advisor for VUTV, Studio Manager and HLN/ESPN Broadcast Coordinator. In September 2017 Ron accepted a promotion to full time with Valparaiso University with the title of Faculty Advisor for VUTV, Studio Manager and Broadcast & Streaming Manager.
In Ron’s broadcasting career he has worked for a number of TV stations throughout the Midwest including, WEHT, WNDU and WYIN, just to name a few. Ron has worked as a director/producer, master control operator and supervisor, floor director, camera operator and all production positions in-between.
Ron resides in Valparaiso with his wife, of over 15 years, Tami and their fur babies Bella and Willow. In his off time Ron likes fishing, attending NASCAR races, and spending time with his family and friends. Ron and Tami also own their own DJ Service, Music-N-Motion Mobile DJ Service.
